The presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Atiku Abubakar, will today (Sunday) receive the lawmaker representing Kano Central senatorial district, Ibrahim Shekarau, back to the PDP.
The former governor of Kano State had dumped the PDP for the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the buildup to the 2019 elections.
Shekarau was elected into the senate on the platform of the APC, things, however, did not work out between him and the state Governor, Abdullahi Ganduje leading to his defection to the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP).
Shekarau who won a return ticket on the platform of the NNPP spent a few months in the party before his relationship with the presidential candidate of the party, Rabiu Kwankwaso went sour.
The Kano State PDP Chairman, Shehu Wada Sagagi while reacting to Shekarau’s plan to join the party, said plans have been put in place for Atiku to receive him
Sagagi while speaking with Daily Trust said, “Alhamdulillah, finally, we now have a leader in Kano and I am delighted. Shekarau, being the highest political office holder as provided by the constitution, has accepted and we have welcomed him back to our dear party, the PDP.
“All arrangements are in top gear in preparation to receive Atiku Abubakar who will be in Kano on Sunday, hopefully, to receive Mallam Ibrahim Shekarau. We have accepted to follow him and we shall succeed, God willing.”
