Ben-Kingsley Nwashara, a 27 year old graduate of Law became a father overnight after he picked up an abandoned girl child along the road in Nkanu West, Enugu State. In a news report by BBC NEWS PIDGIN, Ben-Kingsley revealed that he picked up the baby at night while returning from a party with his friends.
On that fateful day, the 15th Of June 2022, the Law graduated said that as he was returning from a party with some of his friends around past 9pm, he saw something that looked like a log of wood. His friends thought it was a snake, but as he got closer and turned on his phone torch, he was surprised to see a baby sitting down helplessly by the roadside.
He said that he was afraid when he carried her especially after he noticed injuries and rashes all over her body, and couple with the fact that she didn’t shake or make any sound. Realizing that the baby needed urgent medical attention, the 27 year old said he took it upon himself to carter for her. According to Ben-Kingsley, when he decided to carry the baby, he went to the nearest police station in Nkanu West around 10:30pm that night to report the incident, but the police woman on duty encouraged him to go home with the baby that night as there was nothing the police could do at that moment and come back the next day to make an official report.
He said that he also went to the Local Government Chairman of Nkanu West to talk about the child’s welfare, but they asked him to hold onto the baby temporarily. He added that he was given money to take care of the child and even the DPO of the police command he reported to later called him and told to continue to be the child’s custodian. Ben-Kingsley also revealed that the orphanage home didn’t agree to take in the baby as they were afraid the child could die owing to the condition she was in when he found her.
He disclosed that ever since he picked up the child, his life has changed positively, he said the child has brought blessings to him, changed his way of reasoning and helped him to be more organized than he was before. Going further, Ben-Kingsley stated that he later named the child “Testimony” and pledged to do everything within his powers to ensure she has the best of everything after all the suffering she went through. He said that he doesn’t regret his decision while advising other people to learn to be more selfless even as he is. He concluded by saying that unless the biological parents of the child shows up, he will nurture her to adulthood as her father and any woman who will settle down with him must be ready to accept the child and support him to take care of her as well.
