Senator Abdullahi Adamu, the National Chairman of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) has said that his party settled for the Muslim-Muslim ticket because it is the strategy it thinks “can best work for us.”
Bola Tinubu, the APC presidential candidate, picked Senator Kashim Shettima, the former governor of Borno, who is also a Muslim, as his running mate for the 2023 presidential election.
The development has elicited criticism from key stakeholders, particularly the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN).
Speaking recently with BBC Hausa service in an interview monitored by this newspaper, Adamu vowed that the APC ‘will convince Nigerians to fully support the Tinubu/Shettima same faith ticket’.
He said: “We will not relent. We will work to ensure we convince Nigerians to fully support this Tinubu/Shettima ticket.
“Every party has its strategy, and this is our strategy that we think can best work for us.”
