Governors Should Note That All Nigerians Earnings Below N50k Monthly Are Living In Poverty- Olisa Metuh

In an article titled “Let The Governors And The Government Consider The Plight Of The Lower Class”, Olisa Metuh, a former aide to ex-President Goodluck Jonathan reacted to the proposal by the Governors in Nigeria to President Muhammadu Buhari to tax Nigerians’ earnings above N30,000 monthly, a flat rate of 3% Personal Income Tax. Festus keyamo said,

“The governors should note that all Nigerians earning below N50,000($80) monthly are living in poverty and the government should not inflict them with more financial punishment. They are already burdened with multiple taxations, provide their water supply and alternative energy as well as cater for their aged and their infants in the absence of any social services cushion. They already provide communal welfare services under our cultural extended family system.”

Recall as part of their solutions to Nigeria’s economic crisis, our Governors want FG to pay off civil servants above 50 years. They also want the federal government to raise taxes across the board and levy anyone earning N30,000 and above monthly. Although the Federal Government has ruled out the Sack of civil servants but it might adopt tax levels on Nigerians.
