Northern Christian Governor emerges Tinubu’s Campaign DG

Barring any last minute change, the Plateau State Governor, Simon Lalong, will head the Presidential Campaign Council of the presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress presidential candidate for the 2023 polls, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

Impeccable sources told The Eagle Online on Tuesday morning that his name had been submitted for ratification.

According to available information, the initial person pencilled down for the job, Adams Oshiomhole, a former Governor of Edo State, will likely serve as the Deputy Director General of the Campaign Council.

Lalong, a Christian, was said to have been chosen head of others in the bid to douse the religious debate generated over the Muslim-Muslim ticket of the APC.

Recall that Tinubu had during a Sallah homage to President Muhammadu Buhari in Daura, Katsina State named a former Governor of Borno State, Senator Kashim Shettima, as his ruling mate.

Both Tinubu and Shettima are Muslims.

Lalong is a two-term Governor of Plateau State, whose tenure will end in 2023.

According to available information, President Buhari’s ratification is awaited before he is unveiled as the DG of the Campaign Council.

Recall that The Eagle Online had earlier reported that the Kaduna State Governor, Nasir el-Rufai, had confirmed the emergence of a Campaign Council DG for the APC.

El-Rufai, however, did not name the person.

He spoke when he presented a report of the Progressive Governors Forum to Tinubu in Lagos on Sunday.
