Lionel Messi leaves special message for Luis Suarez after lending him £12million private jet

Lionel Messi sent a heartfelt message to Luis Suarez after he sealed a homecoming at Uruguayan side Nacional earlier this week.

The Uruguayan striker was available on a free transfer this summer after leaving Atletico Madrid. There were initial links to Juventus and Aston Villa, whilst Borussia Dortmund were credited with a potential interest as they attempted to bolster their attack following the news that summer signing Sebastien Haller was set to be out of action due a malignant tumour.

However, he elected to leave European football after 16 years as he made an emotional return to his first senior club.

Soon after, the now 35-year-old was sent a touching message by former Barcelonateammate and great friend Lionel Messi.

In a video message shared on social media and also displayed to Suarez during his presentation, the Argentine said: “Hey gordo [Messi’s nickname for Suarez]! Well, you’re there now and I wanted to give you a big hug and wish you all the best in this new chapter of yours.

“I know how important it is for you to be back to your country, your home, to Nacional after so long and prepare for the World Cup in a few months. I wish you all the best.

“Now, I have to follow Nacional from here. We, Newell’s fans don’t have good memories of Nacional. But, you know, I care about you and I am here for whatever you need.

“Hey gordo, as I said, I wish you all the best and, hopefully, we will see you soon. A big hug. Bye!”
