Chelsea were looking to put their awful run of form during their US tour behind them when they took on Serie A outfit Udinese in Fruili.
The blues were dominant in the early proceedings of the game as the frontline of Sterling, Mount and Havertz proved to be dangerous. They eventually opened the scoring when Kante drove quite well before sending the ball into the back of the net.
Chelsea were completely in control of the game and doubled their lead in the 37th minute through Raheem Sterling. However, Tuchel’s men failed to keep a clean sheet as Deulofeu scored on the rebound in the 42nd minute as Chelsea led 2-1 at the break. Things stayed that way for the most part of the second half until the 90th minute when Mount scored as Chelsea got back to winning ways with a 3-1 win over Udinese.
The well deserved win was as a result of Tuchel’s brilliance in his game plan ahead of the game which saw Chelsea dominate the game.
First of all, he started a strong side, knowing that his side were out of form for the most part of their pre season tour. The trio of Mount, Havertz and Sterling upfront caused problems for Udinese.
Secondly, with Tuchel realizing that he had less option on the bench, he waited until the 73rd minute before making 3 substitutions. As a result, that saw more dominant display from this Chelsea side and though the scoreline read 2-1 for the most part of the game, Udinese looked out of shape and couldn’t improvise with the way Chelsea played. Though this is just a pre season game, a win for Chelsea was much needed after their appalling performances in the US.
