Causes Of Frequent Urination At Night

Frequent urination at night, known as nocturia, is actually a common complaint among men and women in every age group. Though there are cases when it can be caused by some medical conditions and medications like medication for high blood pressure and diabetes, it is mostly due to more benign causes.

Your doctor may need to check your urine for specific substances if you have constant nighttime urination and no known cause. According to Healthline, here are few possible causes of frequent urination at night:

1. Pregnancy.

The hormone estrogen plays an important role in regulating periods and menopause-related symptoms such as hot flashes and night sweats during pregnancy. Estrogen increases blood flow to the uterus and vagina, which can lead to frequent urination at night during pregnancy.

2. Diabetes and low blood sugar levels.

If you are suffering from diabetes, then it is possible that you may experience frequent urination at night. You should visit your doctor if this is the case so that they can determine what type of treatment plan will work best for you personally.

3. Drinking too much water or alcohol, can causes excess urination during the night time. You may also experience frequent urination if you drink too much caffeine while awake and then go back to sleep after a few hours when it wears off.

4. Bladder stones or cystitis.

If you are experiencing pain when you try to urinate, then this could be due to bladder stones or cystitis, which is an inflammation in your bladder. You should visit your doctor if this is the case and they will help you with treatment options.
