Finalissima: How Messi Has Turned Himself To A Serious Ballon D’Or Contender

Argentina secured a comfortable win in their crucial Finalissima clash against European champions, Italy, on Wednesday evening at Wembley Stadium.

Argentina dominated the game and clearly deserve to get a positive result from the contest. The South American champions started the game brightly as they managed to score two goals in the first 45 minutes to put themselves in control.

Lautaro Martinez gave Argentina the lead in the 28th finish after receiving a delightful cross from Lionel Messi.

Angel Di Maria doubled the advantage for Argentina with was the last kick of the first half. The sensational winger looped the ball over the onrushing goalkeeper to put Argentina in total control at halftime.

Things got even better for Argentina in the final minute of the second half as Dybala managed to find the bottom corner with a sublime strike from the edge of the box.

Questions have been raised on whether Lionel Messi could be awarded the Ballon d’Or this year after his recent achievement.

I guess it is quite difficult to hand Lionel Messi the Ballon d’Or this year considering his average performance for Paris St. Germain. However, we can’t possibly underemphasize his chances of clinching the award for the 8th time this year.

Messi still stand a chance of winning the Ballon d’Or if he can inspire Argentina to a World Cup triumph. The most prestigious world tournament will start in coming months and Lionel Messi stands a good chance to add another trophy to his cabinet.

Messi seems to have turned himself to a serious Ballon d’Or contender by merely winning the Finalissima title for Argentina. Things might turn out favourable for him at the end of the year if he can manage to win the World Cup.
