EPL: Chelsea players shocked as teammate refused to play FA Cup final against Liverpool

Chelsea players were ‘shocked and confused’ after defender, Andreas Christensen decided to withdraw from the squad so close to the FA Cup final against Liverpool on Saturday, The Guardian reports.

Christensen pulled out of the squad on the very day of the match after playing a full 90 minutes in Chelsea’s 3-0 victory over Leeds United last Wednesday.

The Denmark international was in contention to play a part in the final at Wembley, but informed manager Thomas Tuchel in the morning of the match that he would be unavailable.

This is despite not carrying an injury, and according to another top UK newspaper, Telegraph, sources close to the player claimed he had felt unwell in the week leading up to the final match and did not expect to start against the Reds.

Last month, Christensen told Tuchel to substitute him at half time in the 4-2 defeat to Arsenal due to injury, and pulled out of the Chelsea squad against West Ham after suffering from stomach cramps.

The 26-year-old is said to be heading to Barcelona at the end of the season, having failed to reach an agreement with the Blues for a new contract.
