EPL: Tuchel reacts as Lewis Hamilton, Serena Williams join bid to buy Chelsea from Abramovich

Chelsea manager, Thomas Tuchel has said that he is a great admirer of British racing driver, Sir Lewis Hamilton and super tennis star Serena Williams, after it emerged that the duo were involved in Sir Michael Broughton’s bid to buy Chelsea from Roman Abramovich.

Broughton’s bid is one of three being considered by Abramovich, Chelsea’s executives and the US bank Raine Group, which is overseeing the sale of the West London club.

Recall that Russian-Israeli billionaire, Roman Abramovich, had announced that he had put Chelsea up for sale, insisting that the decision was in Chelsea’s ‘best interest’.

Abramovich was sanctioned by the UK government over his links with Russian President Vladimir Putin amid the Russian invasion of Ukraine.

Reacting to the takeover update during his pre-match press conference on Friday ahead of Chelsea’s Premier League tie with West Ham on Sunday, Tuchel said: “I just heard it. I just got a briefing and heard that they [Hamilton and Serena] are a part of it.

“I can’t tell you much more than that but I’m a big admirer of both of them. They’re fantastic sports personalities on the court, on the track, and off.

“They take responsibility as people and are outstanding sports figures in what they do, for which they’ve our biggest and my biggest respect.

“I have absolutely no insight into [what happens next] and what role they play so I would like to not comment too much.”
