The Trapp family have been confirmed as the tallest family as the world – with an average height of 6ft 8in – by Guinness World Records
A family-of-five have set a record that not many can measure up to – being confirmed as the tallest family in the world.
The Trapps from Esko in Minnesota, in the US, set the Guinness World Record in December 2020 after their collective average height was calculated as 6ft 8.03in and their combined height is the same as the length of half a tennis court.
The basketball player towers above his siblings and parents at an astonishing 7ft 3in tall.
Savanna Trapp-Blanchfield, 27, is the next tallest – measuring in at 6ft 8in, while youngest sibling Molly Steede, 24, stands at 6ft 6in tall.
Like their brother, both sisters have also played sports throughout their lives, with all three recruited by their colleges for either basketball or volleyball.
Molly said: “Coaches always said to us ‘you can’t teach height. You’re either tall or you’re not’.”
The siblings unusual height was apparent from early on, with each constantly standing out against their peers. Scott said: “When I was in first grade, I was taller than my teacher.”
But there were growing pains on their journey to the top. “The growing pains were unreal. I have stretch marks on the back of my legs,” she added.
In December 2020, the five visited orthopaedics doctor Dr Anna Sudoh to be measured.
Each family member was measured three time throughout the day, both standing up and lying down so the average of the measurements could be used to calculate their height.
They were thrilled to learn that they had met the criteria to qualify for a place in the record books.
“My sister called the family up to tell us that we officially got the record. Everyone was excited about it, and it was almost hard to believe,” said Adam.
The family hopes the worldwide recognition they’ll receive will make up for the drawbacks that come with being so tall.
Savanna added: “Our friends and family are so proud of us and like to use us for bragging rights, saying they know a world record holder.”
