Final Year Medical Student Dies After Two Weeks Of Evacuation From Ukraine

Uzaifa Halilu Modachi, a final year medical student of Zaporizhzhia State Medical University, Ukraine, has died after two weeks of his return.

According to the Vanguard News, he was said to be among the forty students evacuated to Sokoto from war-torn Ukraine after Russian troops invaded the country about three weeks ago.

The Sokoto State Government through the Nigerian Embassy in Ukraine arranged for the evacuation of their students who are indigenes of the state.

The father of the deceased, Honourable Habibu Haliru Modachi, who is a serving member of the Sokoto State House of Assembly, disclosed that his son has been in Ukraine for three years without returning home for vacation.

The father who is thankful to God as he gives and takes away life said that that is how God wanted it to happen. If he had died in Ukraine, so many things would be said of Uzaifa that he was killed by the Russian bombardment or had an accident or was accidentally shot and killed by the Ukrainian Army, he added.

He died before us and we thank God and the Nigerian Government, particularly Sokoto State Government for a hasty decision to have evacuated the students before the war got escalated in Ukraine, Modachi said.

The late student has been buried according to Islamic rites in Sokoto.
