Two Candidates Emerge From Osun PDP Governorship Primary Election

The crisis in the Osun State Chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) escalated on Tuesday, March 8, 2022, as two candidates emerged from the party’s governorship primary election.

Senator Ademola Adeleke won the primary election, which was supervised by the PDP National Working Committee.

1916 delegates took part in the primary, said Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo, the returning officer. He said Adeleke polled 1887 votes to defeat his rival, Dotun Babayemi, who had no vote.

Babayemi won the parallel primary election backed by Olagunsoye Oyinlola, the former governor of Osun state.

The development has caused confusion in the opposition party ahead of the Osun governorship election, which will be held in July 2022.

Only one candidate can be recognised by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC). The crisis will be resolved by the judiciary if the opposition party cannot reach a compromise within themselves.
