NIG 1-0 EGY: Two Wise Decisions Augustine Eguavoen Made As Super Eagles Begin 2021 AFCON With Win

The Super Eagles kicked off the 2021 AFCON with a win against Egypt. Augustine Eguavoen won his first match as the Super Eagles manager, he will definitely be pleased with his team performance. There was commitment and dedication in the Super Eagles team today, that’s something we haven’t seen from the Super Eagles for some while. Augustine Eguavoen rose their spirits and made them winners once again. Here are the two wise decisions Augustine Eguavoen made as Eagles began the 2021 AFCON with win.

Starting Taiwo Awoniyi Ahead Of Alex Iwobi

Alex Iwobi wasn’t a part of the Super Eagles starting lineup today, it’s quite unusual to see Iwobi being excluded from the Super Eagles starting lineup in an important match. Alex Iwobi has been a vital player for the Super Eagles since he joined the team. Taiwo Awoniyi hasn’t been a regular player for the Super Eagles, Augustine Eguavoen gave him a chance in the squad and he took it.

Taiwo Awoniyi and Alex Iwobi doesn’t play in similar positions, Taiwo plays as a striker while Iwobi plays as a winger. Both players still have the same abilities and can still switch positions. Alex Iwobi would be the player to replace Taiwo Awoniyi if he was to be substituted. Taiwo Awoniyi worked well alongside Kelechi Iheanacho in attack, the duo caused a lot of problems for the Egyptians.

Starting Moses Simon Ahead Of Ahmed Musa

Moses Simon was brilliant in today’s match against the Pharaohs, he made brilliant runs from the left hand side and created few chances of scoring. Ahmed Musa has similar abilities but Augustine Eguavoen made the right decision to start Simon ahead of Musa. Ahmed Musa wouldn’t have delivered his best against Egypt in today’s match. Moses Simon also played a major role in Kelechi Iheanacho’s opening goal.
