Kenyan Olympic champion gifts a house to her uncle who raised her since she was a child

Kenyan Olympic gold medalist, Peres Chepchirchir has rewarded her uncle, David Barno, who raised her since she was 2 years old.

The athlete who lost her mum at age 2 built her uncle and his wife a house and organised a ceremony to present them the gift.

Chepchirchir handed the keys of the house to her uncle and his wife in the memorable ceremony that was attended by family and well wishers.

She won gold in the 2020 Olympics marathon and currently holds the world record for the women’s half-marathon in the world.

While appreciating her uncle, she said; “Thanks to my uncle for taking care of me since I was two years old, this is for you. Thank you God for such a blessing.”

In past interviews, Chepchirchir had repeatedly revealed how athletics turned her life around and her entire family.

She said; “I lost my mother when I was two years old. My father had three wives and my mother was the second.

“We are 24 siblings and that is why I decided to work hard because we had very little resources at home. Life was not that easy. Small scale farming was the only source of income.”
