“The news about Barça and President asking me for a 30% salary reduction is fake” – Messi reveals

Earlier today Lionel Messi had a press conference to bid farewell to Barcelona, its staff, supporters and players after 21 years with the club.

Barcelona on Thursday announced that the club will no longer be moving forward with their Captain due to economic and financialsituations.

This statement was made by Barcelona President Joan Laporta, on the eve of the meeting scheduled for the finalizing of the contract between the club and Messi according to reports.

According to multiple sources, the contract was to see Lionel Messi stay at Barcelona until June 2026 after he agreed to a 50% pay cut in his salary.

However, during the press conference today, Messi described the news that said he didn’t accept a 30 % salary deduction presented to him by Laporta as ‘fake‘ according to Sports analyst; Fabrizio Romano

He said: ” The news about Barça and Laporta asking me for a 30% salary reduction on Thursday is absolutely fake. It’s a lie. I offered to reduce my contract by 50% and they didn’t ask me for anything else”.

From the information gathered during the Press Conference, it is therefore wise to say that the reason behind Messi contract collapse as reported by the Club is not the actual truth.
