Sergio Ramos set to join PSG according to reports

Less than a week ago, Sergio Ramos announced that he would be leaving Real Madrid after 16 years of service for the club.

The Spaniard has been a stalwart of Real Madrid’s defence in that time, having made 671 appearances for Los Blancos, winning four Champions League titles in the process.

According to Ramos, he never wanted to leave the Spanish capital, saying that difference over contract length was the sticking point.

He said:

“My first choice was to stay. I received a 1-year offer with a salary cut. The money wasn’t an issue, I wanted a 2-year contract for myself and my family.

“I accepted the 1-year offer at last, but the club informed me that the offer was no longer on the table.”

PSG leading the race

Where Ramos will end up next is a matter of intense speculation, but it may not be for too much longer.

According to a report from Tiempo de Juego, Sergio Ramos will be joining up with Neymar and Kylian Mbappe for Paris Saint Germain, turning out in the Blue of the 2019 finalists for 2021/22.

Indeed, as per the report, Ramos has even gone as far as to “tell several of his team-mates that his future will be with PSG”, suggesting that a deal may be very close to completion.

Now 35, Ramos was controversially dropped from Luis Enrique’s Spanish squad for Euro 2020, and will be desperate for a chance to prove that the coach was wrong to discard him at this point in his career.

PSG may offer him the chance to do just that.
