Robin Gosens Declined Ronaldo Shirt-Swap Chance After Germany Beat Portugal At Euro 2020

Robin Gosens admits he didn’t bother asking Cristiano Ronaldo for his shirt again following Germany’s impressive comeback victory over Portugal at Euro 2020.

Germany came from behind to secure a 4-2 win over Portugal in a thrilling Group F encounter in Munich on Saturday.

Ronaldo gave Portugal an early lead but two own goals from Ruben Dias and Raphael Guerreiro put Germany in front before half time.

After the break, Kai Havertz extended Germany’s advantage before Gosens capped a fine individual display by scoring his side’s fourth goal.

Diogo Jota pulled one back for Portugal but it wasn’t enough to spark a revival and Germany have now registered their first win of the tournament.

Gosens was named man of the match for his performance but the Atalanta defender opted not to ask Ronaldo for his shirt after the game following his snub in 2019.

After Atalanta beat Juventus in the Coppa Italia quarter-final, Gosens asked to swap shirts with Ronaldo but the Portuguese simply said ‘no’ and walked away.

‘I was completely blushed and ashamed,’ Gosens wrote in his autobiography. ‘I went away and felt small.’
