Sad news dawned on the market people of Nkwommiri on the first day of the fresh month of May.

Reports suggest that 10 women were crushed to death after a truck rammed into Nkwommiri market in Nwangele Local Government Area of Imo State on Saturday May 1.

The truck which lost its brakes while descending from Anara road to Orlu did not only kill 10 women but also left many others with serious injuries.

An eyewitness disclosed to the Nation that the women who were trading by the roadside were crushed into a nearby river. He added that the government officials are making efforts to save those trapped.

Adolphus said to The Nation:

“The worst has happened here. A truck that lost its brakes has killed women trading on the road at Nkwommir,”

Meanwhile, Orlando Ikeokwu, the police spokesperson in the state has confirmed the incident.

 

In other news, the Lagos State Police Command have arrested suspected armed robbers, Nnonyelu Kelechukwu, and Okongi Godspower, and recovered a stolen vehicle from them.

Muyiwa Adejobi, the command’s spokesperson released a statement saying the operatives linked to FESTAC Division arrested the suspects on 29th April, 2021 at about 9am and found the vehicle.

 

He added that the community leaders revealed that the suspects wanted to sell one unregistered Lexus 2004 SUV to one Anas at the rate of N1,000,000 however had a feeling that the vehicle must have been stolen. Adejobi said;

“The DPO and his team tracked down and arrested the suspects and the unregistered Lexus SUV was recovered to the station. The suspects have confessed that they removed the vehicle from somewhere in Alaba-Rago Area of Lagos State.

The Commissioner of Police, Lagos State Police Command, CP Hakeem Odumosu, has commended the efforts of the Division for arresting the suspected armed robbers and directed that they should be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department, Panti, Yaba for discreet Investigation and possible arrest of other members of the syndicate”
